Although the weather wasn't as cooperative as it could have been, Smith Creek employees and family members managed to make the best of it during the annual company Picnic held at Six Flags Over New England.  Employees were treated to an all expense paid day of fun, food and friendship and they refused to let a little rain get in the way.  After a morning of rides and attractions employees gathered at lunchtime for a veritable smorgasbord of hamburgers, hot dogs, bar-b-q chicken, and ice cream.  Smith Creek employee Dave Smith won the annual hot dog eating contest with a total of only 1.5 hotdogs by default when he was the only person to enter.

Following lunch Smith Creek Mandolin owner David Smith told employees he was proud to have every single one of them working for him and that Smith Creek would not be where it is today without their hard work and dedication.  He went on to call them the "Heart and soul" of the organization, and pointed out that they personified the meaning of no "I" in team.  After that his comments became slightly less coherent complaining about a father who never believed in his mandolin building dream.  Mr. Smith stated when he told his father of his plans to start Smith Creek Mandolin his father said "mandolin's?  Who is ever going to want one of those things?  You might as well flush your money down the toilet."  Smith babbled on saying his father "Wouldn't spit in my mouth if I was dying of thirst, but he invested his life's savings in my little brother's pot bellied pig farm... ...going to replace the family dog before the new millennium he said...   ...that was "97, so not this millennium I guess...  ...maybe next...  ...probably not..."  At this point most employees started to disperse, returning to the rides and attractions throughout the park.

When asked how he felt about the speech Smith Creek employee Dave Smith stated it was typical.  "Mr. Smith is a great guy, but every company event he tips back a few too many and gets all weepy saying how he loves us all like family, blah blah blah.  All I know is I gotta get over to the Superman - Ride of Steel roller coaster before he starts the annual "Let me give you a hug-fest."
