Adirondack Red

Spruce Tonewood

I spend about 4 days a year in the woods of Maine selecting and felling the finest Adirondack Red Spruce trees for use on my own instruments, and for sale.  I can supply tonewood for virtually all stringed instruments from violin to cello with all the Mandolin and Guitar family instruments in between.

I have flat-top guitar wood that is a dead ringer for a 1930's D-18 to Master quality for the finest one of a kind project.  Let me know what you are looking for and I am sure I can supply you with a top that will help you build a fantastic instrument.  The picture below is from a trip in 2001 and shows a tree being cored in order to sample the grain.

CNC-Carved Mandolin and Mandola Tops and Backs:

Tops and backs are cnc-carved to near perfection, leaving just enough material to scrape and/or sand and end up with an incredible Loar sounding top or back plate.

I have studied measured and drawn a number of Loar era instruments to arrive at the archings and graduations used to make these tops.  If you plan on building a top notch sounding instrument, using one of these tops and/or backs is a great place to start.
